In the context of the ‘Plan Rhône’ to counteract flooding and the willingness to teach residents how to cope better with such risks, the aim of this paper is to study the practical potentialities of memory. To what extent do the memories linked to flooding have an influence on the daily lives of residents and especially in times of disaster? In addressing this issue in terms of the narratives of flood victims, it is postulated that memories are related above all to actions and experience. Thus, the results presented from the qualitative and quantitative methods of text analysis highlight the presence of past floods in the narratives of contemporary situations and the content and modes of transmission of the experience of flooding.
