The Lyon metropolitan area has shown a great interest in waterfront redevelopments since 23. Major projects such as the ‘Berges du Rhône’ (Rhône river banks), the Confluence and the ‘anneau Bleu’ (Blue Ring) have attracted a large amount of media coverage. Despite certain gaps and biases, regional daily newspapers provide a picture of these new urban developments which varies in time, space and in relation to different systems of stakeholders. A corpus of 136 articles was examined though a content analysis and a textual data analysis. The redeveloped banks of the Rhône reveal a multi-functional river featuring successes, tensions and failures. The choices of the type of urban development, instigated by politicians, show a post-modern city characterised its focus on events and its fragmented character.
Transenvir
